If you’re considering surrendering your pet, you’re not alone. We’re here to help you explore the safest next steps.

Surrendering

We understand that making the decision to surrender an animal can be incredibly difficult. Every situation is different, and at YMM ARC, we approach each one with kindness, compassion, and respect. Reaching out for help is never something to be ashamed of, and our goal is to support both you and your animal through the process.

When an animal comes into our care, we work to provide a safe and stable environment while they transition toward finding the right forever home. Many animals need time to decompress, adjust to new surroundings, and receive any necessary medical or behavioural support before they are ready for adoption.

If you are considering surrendering an animal, the first step is completing our online surrender application. This form allows our team to learn more about the animal’s history, personality, medical needs, and current circumstances so we can determine the best way to support them.

Once your application has been submitted, a member of our volunteer team will review the information and contact you as soon as possible. As a volunteer-run organization, response times may vary depending on foster availability and intake capacity, but we do our best to respond promptly.

Please note that submitting a surrender application does not guarantee immediate intake. Acceptance is based on available space, resources, and the individual needs of the animal. If your application is approved, we will work closely with you to coordinate the next steps and help make the transition as smooth as possible.

Above all, our priority is ensuring every animal receives the care, safety, and opportunity they deserve.

If possible, we kindly ask that you provide as much notice as possible prior to surrender so our team can coordinate intake and foster placement more effectively.

We also appreciate any supplies you are able to send with your animal, such as food, bedding, toys, medication, crates, or veterinary records. These items can help support a smoother transition and reduce stress during their arrival into care.

If providing supplies is not possible, a surrender fee may be requested to assist with the cost of essential care items and medical needs. If this may present a challenge, please include a note in your application so we can discuss available options with you.
